To cater to the target audience, the redesigned album artwork displays a colorful and striking cover that is contrasted by sophisticated but bold typography, and invites in to discover more details in the delicate pattern. The image is created with watercolors that has been digitally modified to create a more moody and mysterious feeling. Comparing to the original cover, the redesigned album still has the planets represented with the red cover as Mars, inner sleeve portraying the dark space in between, and lastly the yellow record as Venus. Therefore all the same elements are present, but in a new format that offers a greater user experience.
Venus And Mars by Wings - Redesign part 1
The aim and purpose of this project is to explore how social and cultural context affect and impact visual communication, specifically in the form of vinyl records and its album art. Wings’ 1975 album Venus And Mars is the chosen vehicle to explore and investigate how its album art would look like if it was released today with young adults as its target audience. The redesigned album artwork must adapt to today’s context and trends, but still resemble the same aura as the original cover to fit Wings’ general identity.
